Did you know that October 12th was World Arthritis Day? Many people are affected by this debilitating disease. For some its visible, for others it isn't. I was diagnosed with AS (Ankylosing Spondylitis) also known as Bechterew's disease almost 3 years ago, but had been dealing with the affects of it for MANY years prior.
Ankylosing spondylitis is both an autoimmune type of arthritis and a chronic inflammatory disease. An autoimmune disease develops when your body attacks its own healthy tissues. Ankylosing spondylitis is also an inflammatory condition that involves inflamed or swollen joints and can cause severe stiffness and hunched back.
By bringing awareness to the disease that is a complex, multifaceted disease; that is a leading cause of disability worldwide and that affects many people daily we can help in research findings and methods.
How does your arthritis look?
